Save Eyesight Project II, Fundus Camera for Lom Sak Hospital, Phetchabun
Project Detail:
Patients with diabetes need to be offered diabetic eye screening test once a year to determine if there are any eye problems caused by diabetes. Many patients are not diagnosed until they have experienced eye problems, or worse, when their condition has worsened beyond treatement.
Due to this reason, Lom Sak hospital has come up with an outreach program to increase the accessibility of the diabetic eye screening test. Every week, Lom Sak hospital will send team of doctors and attending staffs, along with Fundus cameras, to one of the 32 sub-district hospitals nearby so that the patients can easily get the eye screening test. In only 2 months after the program was implemented, over 159 new diabetic patients with eye problems include Diabetic retinopathy 49 cases, Cataract 76 cases, and Glaucoma 34 cases have been found. However, by doing so, tests and operations related to the use of Fundus camera in Lom Sak hospital itself has come to a halt due to the lack of equipment.
That's where we come in. We want to raise public awareness about sight-threatening diseases, and provide Lom Sak Hospital in Phetchabun, Thailand, with the medical equipment needed for early detection of eye problems. This project will allow early detection of eye problems, so patients can receive early treatment which reduce risk of permanent vision loss.
