Rotary Day event turns trash into treasure for mangrove preservation at Ban Khun Samut Chin community

March 3, 2024

In a remarkable collaborative effort, the Rotary Club of Silom, the Rotary Club of Bangkok Vibhavadi, the Rotary Club of Samphanthawong, and the Rotary Club of Phrasamutjadee organized a Rotary Day event focused on environmental conservation. Over 50 individuals from various Rotarian-owned companies, including Bangkok Watch & Jewelry (Tuk Tuk Bangkok Watch), P.S. Food Product, Apisith Interplast, and P.N. Advertising, along with students from the Thonburi Commercial College, Rotaract Club of Silom Metropolis, NIST International School, and St. Andrews International School worked tirelessly to pick up trash and litter from the mangrove area around Ban Khun Samut Chin community.

Collected plastic bottles were transformed into plant pots and road tiles using a grinder, combining them with cement. The plant pots were then handed over to children, who took the opportunity to showcase their artistic talents by painting them.

To further support mangrove preservation, a plant pot auction was organized, drawing the attention of fellow Rotarians attending the event. Tu Nantida Kaewbuasai, a veteran singer and actress who now serves as the Chief Executive of the Provincial Administrative Organization of Samut Prakan, enthusiastically joined the event. She also sends in a painted plant pot for the auction, adding a touch of creativity to the initiative. The auction successfully raised more than 50,000 THB, contributing significantly to the ongoing mangrove preservation initiative.

This collaborative effort demonstrates the power of community partnerships and the impact that can be achieved when individuals, businesses, and organizations come together for a common cause. The Rotary Clubs involved hope to inspire similar initiatives and raise awareness about the importance of preserving our natural environment.
